SmartStop® Function Test: A Milestone for the UK Team

The UK team recently completed a successful function test of the SmartStop® system as part of the approval process for new technology within one of the gas distribution networks. Representatives from the network and the principal contractor joined the team in Scunthorpe. The purpose of the day was to function test the SmartStop® under pressure to demonstrate its capability, this was done with an 8” SmartStop® at 80 bar using Nitrogen. The pressure chosen was based on it being in excess of any of the particular gas network maximum operating pressure. 

The test involved inserting the SmartStop® under pressure, confirming the integrity of both primary and secondary seals (each holding 100% for over 30 minutes), and safely removing the unit—all completed without incident and ahead of schedule.
